What are the differences between Type F, G, and Z Flat Roof Windows?

The different types of flat roof windows have many beneficial features, such as low U-value or unrivalled sound insulation, but it can get confusing when choosing which one is the best for you. In this article we are going to look at the three main types – F, G and Z and their major differences, so you can make the most informed decision when buying your new flat roof windows.  

Flat windows possess a wide range of benefits – the major difference between the three main types lies in the construction of their glazing unit. The more layers there are in a window, the more advantages you will have, such as reduced outside noise, UV protection and enhanced security.   

Flat Roof Windows Overview

Glazing Units and Thermal Insulation  

By minimizing the movement of hot or cold air via windows, the different types of glazing can provide exceptional insulation, keeping your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Type F can be supplied with:  

• Triple DU6 glazing unit, making them extremely thermally efficient, with heat transmittance of U=0.70 W/m2K  
• Quadruple U8 glazing unit, making them extremely thermally efficient, with heat transmittance of is U=0.64 W/m2K  

Type G can be supplied with:  

• Anti-burglary P2 double glazing unit with a Class P2A inner laminated pane, making them safe and secure, with a U-value of 0.92 
• Anti-burglary P4 glazing unit with a Class P4A inner laminated pane, making them safe and secure, with a U-value of 0.92 

Type Z can be supplied with:  

• Anti-burglary P2 double glazing unit, making them safe and secure, and factory-fitted AMZ/Z Z-Wave awning blind installed under the glass segment, with a U-value of 0.92 

Installation Angle  

All of the flat roof windows are constructed in standard dimensions in the range of 60x60cm - 120x220cm apart from Type F.  

Type F windows can be constructed in non-standard dimensions in addition to the regular size.  

Due to their construction purpose, flat windows are suitable for small angles: 

• Type F is suitable for roof pitches ranging between 2 and 15 degrees 

• Type G is suitable for roof pitches ranging between 5 and 15 degrees  
• Type Z is suitable for roof pitches ranging between 0 and 15 degrees
